Fairly rare to the market, a vintage Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson fruit bowl with a very well carved signature mouse sitting in the well - circa 1960.
The oak is a wonderful dark gingerbread colour with natural golden medullary rays running throughout the grain. It has been beautifully adzed and tooled inside and out.
The diameter of the bowl measures just under 25.5cm, which is an unusual size for a Mouseman fruit bowl, the later bowls are a fair bit bigger, measuring 30.5cm.
Being around 60 years old, the bowl has built up some great patination, which really adds charm, it looks almost as if it has been coated with honey.
The condition is very good with no damage. The colour of the oak in the well is a bit uneven due to age and use, quite common with these earlier Mouseman bowls. Other than that, no issues. It has green baize to the base.
A great, vintage Mouseman piece. The 1960s fruit bowls are becoming really popular with collectors as the prices of the early bowls keep soaring in price and are now out of reach for some.
