A delightful Trevor 'Squirrelman' Hutchinson squirrel. All hand carved from one piece of oak. The squirrel is sitting on top of a carved block on its haunches eating a little nut. The condition is excellent with no damage. One ear on the squirrel feels a bit sharp, but I believe it is just the way that it has been carved, so that it looks like the tufted ears of a red squirrel. Trevor has signed the bottom with 'TH'. The height measures 9.5 cm. A very charming piece that displays really well.
Trevor Hutchinson was trained by his father, Wilf Hutchinson, who was famously one of Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson's craftsmen. He was one of the first craftsmen to leave Mouseman and set up his own workshop. That was in 1957. His trademark squirrel was designed by one of Mouseman's master carvers, Stan Dodds. Stan and Trevor remained good friends after Wilf's death and worked together to create some beautiful pieces right up until Stan also unfortunately passed away.
