A very rare Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson large Bettys cakestand. This is one of only 50 limited editions that were made by Mouseman in 2008 especially for Betty's Tea Rooms in Harrogate. It is octagonal in shape and has the signature mouse beautifully carved on one edge. The colour of the oak is wonderful, very much like gingerbread, and it has golden medullary rays running throughout the grain which really adds character.
 
It comes with some fantastic provenance including a Betty's cakestand flyer, produced by Mouseman, in which it explains that they were produced exclusively for Betty's.  Also included is a Robert Thompson's newsletter dated Autumn 2008. In the newsletter there's a little bit about the Betty's cakestands as well. The original envelope from Thompsons to the buyer and a specially produced 'care of your cakestand' small leaflet is also included (produced by Mouseman). Great to have this provenance. 
 
Regarding condition, it is excellent with no damage, just ever so slight wear seen on very close inspection, all in line with almost 20 years of light use. It has had a recent clean and polish, so it looks fabulous. A great, rare investment piece.
 
It is quite a substantial, heavy piece, measuring 30.5 cm x 30 cm x 5 cm.

Like Mouseman, Bettys Tea Rooms in North Yorkshire are quite famous worldwide. They are an iconic brand and specialise in luxury dining. If you have never been to one of their tea rooms, you must go! They even opened a pop-up shop in Castle Howard last year!
