An early hand carved Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson dark oak double ashtray - circa 1940. It has twin circular bowls, which is very rare to see. We have only seen two other examples come to the market. The Mouseman double ashtrays that normally come up for sale do not have circular bowls, they're usually rectangular with rounded edges.
A stout, well carved signature mouse sits in the centre on top of the ashtray. The colour is gorgeous and the oak has amazing, rich patina that makes the whole piece look as if it has been covered in treacle - absolutely superb.
The condition is very good with no damage. There are just a few tiny old dark spots on the top surface. It doesn't appear to have been used as an ashtray, just for display as there are no scorch marks within either bowl.
A fantastic Mouseman piece, you will probably not find another come to the market for some time.
The length is 19cm, the width is 7.9cm, and height is 5cm.
