A superb early Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson nut bowl - circa 1930. It is a wonderful dark oak colour with fantastic patination which almost looks like dark treacle. The signature mouse has been expertly carved running around the exterior of the bowl. Its size is very rare, the diameter measuring just 18cm, so a fair bit smaller than the early fruit bowls, but the perfect size for nuts and nibbles.
The condition is very good with no damage. It has some faint staining and a couple of natural age-related splits in the grain near the rim. Other than that, it just has a bit of wear consistent with almost 100 years of use. The mouse is in perfect condition with no chips to the ears or losses to the tail.
Mouseman nut bowls are very rare to the market. Early fruit bowls occasionally come up for sale; however, 1930s nut bowls hardly ever do. It's a wonderful piece.
