A beautiful hand carved Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson monks chair. It has the lattice design to the back and sides, and a perfectly carved signature mouse is seen running up one front leg.
The chocolate leather seat is in very good condition with just light wear and one scratch, not really noticeable. The colour of the leather works really well with the colour of the oak, and the padding in the seat is firm, which makes this an extremely comfy chair.
It is in excellent condition with just some very light wear, all in line with use. It is solid and structurally sound with no movement in the joints. A substantial, striking piece.
These Mouseman monks chairs were originally designed and made for Ampleforth College Library in the 1920's. Other additions at Ampleforth College Library included the weighty debating chair and a table reputed to weigh a tonne and a half. Over a hundred years later, the furniture is still there.
The height is 85cm, width 63.5cm and depth 60cm.
