A really superb early hand carved Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson dark oak double pin tray with central signature mouse. The mouse has been particularly well carved with a higher back end, typical of the 1940s, It also a thinner neck and more prominent ears, again typical of the early carved mice. Mouseman's later mice have fatter necks and less prominent ears to try to reduce the problem of the ears getting damaged. This mouse has no damage to the ears, they are perfect, as is the rest of the mouse. It is a double pin tray, which is rare to see. It has had no restoration and has wonderful patina. The condition is excellent with just one small dark stain to the top surface, not really noticeable, but should be pointed out. A great Mouseman piece, these early double pin trays are always highly sought after.
