An early Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson drinks tray with two signature mice, one at either end of the tray. It is a bespoke piece, commissioned in 1950 for a wedding gift. It has been beautifully adzed to the top surface and has musical notes engraved onto it, which makes it quite special.
 
These rectangular shaped trays don't often come to the market. They are much rarer than the kidney shaped trays, so are always highly sought after by collectors when they do come up and they can command very high prices. This example is a one-off piece with the engraved musical notes making it unique. 
 
The condition is very good with just a little wear - small nicks and faint scratches to the top surface - nothing significant. Given the condition, I suspect it has probably mostly been used for display and brought out for special occasions. A lot of these trays are warped and heavily stained as they were used regularly to serve food and drinks, this example has no warping and sits perfectly flat on the surface without a wobble. It measures 54 cm (including the mice) x 34.5 cm. A wonderful piece.
