A beautiful 1960s Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson double stool / coffee table. Hand carved from English oak. On the old Mouseman price lists these long stools are advertised as 'Long Fireside Stools'. They are quite rare to the market as not many were made. This particular example is a wonderful dark gingerbread colour with a really well carved signature mouse on one leg.
 
The condition is very good. The top is not original; however, you would never know it. It is gorgeous, completely free from stains and damage, and beautifully adzed. It has also been made from a superb piece of oak that has medullary rays running throughout the grain that almost look like gold ribbons when they catch the light. The top is supported by four octagonally carved baluster legs and stretchers, all in very good condition, with just wear commensurate with age and use.
 
The length is 82.5 cm, the width is 36 cm, and the height is 40 cm. A really lovely Mouseman piece that can be easily used as a coffee table or large double stool.
