A rare pair of Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson dark oak candlesticks - circa 1930. They have been expertly carved, and each has a well-executed signature mouse. The sockets have been beautifully carved with petals, not often seen on Mouseman candlesticks, and only ever seen on the early examples.
They are in good condition for their age. There is a small loss to each base which have been smoothed out. One base also has two natural shakes and one tiny nibble; the other base has three natural cracks (please see pictures). The shakes would have been there when carved, the cracks are due to the age of the candlesticks and are quite common with the early Mouseman pieces. Other than that, there are no condition issues. The mice are in perfect condition with no cracks, no chips to the ears, and no damage to the tails.
The dark oak colour is gorgeous, better in reality than in the pictures, they look lighter in the pictures. The patination is superb. They are quite small, measuring just 20 cm high. The diameter of the base is 7cm.
Overall, they are a wonderful early pair of Mouseman candlesticks that are now almost 100 years old and will soon be considered antique.
