A really rare 1930s Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson oak chapel chair with a superb oak tree carved onto the back panel, making it quite a special one-off piece. Possibly the only Mouseman piece with an oak tree carving. Very apt given nearly all of Mouseman's items are made from oak trees. Being an early piece, the oak is also a gorgeous dark colour with wonderful patination.
The condition is very good. It has a few small chips and a larger smoothed out chip on the back leg (see last picture). Other than that, it just has wear in line with almost 100 years of regular use, and the joints are solid with no movement. The old signature mouse has been carved running up one front leg. The whole chair has been fully adzed, including the seat, which is rare to see and is normally only seen on the very early Mouseman pieces.
All in all, a very interesting 1930s Mouseman chair. Made around the same time Robert Thompson carved his little signature mouse for the very first time.
The chair is 86 cm high. The width is 46.5 cm and the depth is 43 cm. The seat height is 46 cm.
