A really superb early hand carved Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson dark oak double pin tray with central signature mouse. The mouse has been particularly well carved with a higher back end, typical of the 1930s/40s. It also a thinner neck and more prominent ears, again typical of the early carved mice. Mouseman's later mice have fatter necks and less prominent ears. It is a double pin tray, which is rare to see. It is a really good colour, and it has wonderful patina. The condition is excellent, it just has a bit of wear commensurate with age. A great Mouseman piece, these early double pin trays are always very sought after.
The pin tray was purchased direct from a Mouseman collector who bought it from an antiques dealer based in Lancashire 9 years ago. The dealer told him he acquired it from a relative of one of Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson's craftsmen.
