A hand carved chapel chair by Wilf 'Squirrelman' Hutchinson. Wilf Hutchinson was one of Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson's craftsmen. He set up his own workshop in 1957 and adopted the squirrel as his signature. He was commissioned to make this chair, along with others, for St. Luke at the Friarage Hospital in North Yorkshire. The chair back has a cross shape and a little box on the back where the prayer book was stored. It is still very useable today as a hall or desk chair. Wilf has carved his squirrel signature onto the prayer box on the back.
The chair is approximately 60 years old, so it has signs of use. There's some wear to the bottom of one leg (please see pictures), other than that, it is a solid chair, structurally sound, and still very useable today. It has a red faux leather seat, which is in good, clean condition and free from staining.
