A rare vintage Colin 'Beaverman' Almack long bench with the signature beaver carved to one of the feet. The bench is circa 1960s so it has one of Colin's early beaver signatures with shoulders and a raised head. Colin had many apprentices over the years, so most of the Beaverman pieces that come to the market were not actually carved by him. However, this piece has, making it quite special.
 
The bench has been really well made and is a good, substantial, sturdy piece, made shortly after Colin left the Mouseman workshop. It has been beautifully adzed all over, including to the top, and the oak has gorgeous medullary rays which really gives the piece more character and charm. It is also a wonderful dark colour.
 
The condition is excellent with no damage, just slight wear commensurate with a piece of furniture that is about 60 years old. The top has no stains or ring marks, it's really clean. It's a great piece.
 
The length of the bench measures 168cm, the height is 44.3cm, the depth is 26.8cm.

Colin 'Beaverman' Almack was one of Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson's craftsmen. He worked for Thompson during the 1940s and 1950s. He set up his own workshop in 1960 and adopted the beaver as his signature.
