A really lovely Welsh dresser, hand carved from English oak in the manner of Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson. It looks almost identical to a Mouseman dresser, but it does not have the signature mouse. A picture of a Mouseman example has been included in the listing for comparison. Both are remarkably similar, including the wrought iron fittings, apart from the Mouseman piece having half penny moulding carved to the top.
The top rack has two fixed shelves, and the bottom base panelled cupboard has two drawers (one for cutlery), two doors, and one internal shelf within the cupboard. The dresser comes in two pieces for easier transportation. The width measures 113 cm, so it's ever so slightly smaller than a Mouseman dresser, which measures 122 cm wide.
Regarding condition, it has a faint cup stain on one shelf (see picture) and another similar stain to the top of the base unit, which is not really seen as it's at the back. It also has one small indentation on the base top (again, not really noticeable but should be pointed out). Also, a small chip has been smoothed out on the left-hand side of the top unit (again, see pictures). Other than that, the condition is very good.
The whole piece has been hand-carved, it has not been machine made. The quality is just as good as a Mouseman Welsh dresser, however, the Mouseman Welsh dressers retail for 8,500 pounds. This example is a fraction of the price, so is a great alternative for buyers who want the Mouseman look without the Mouseman price. It looks fabulous with a Mouseman lamp, which really lights up the whole piece.
Please note that the items pictured on the dresser, including the Mouseman lamp, are not included in the price, the lamp will be listed separately. Please email info@yorkshiremouse.co.uk if you would like more details and price.
