Welcome to the Yorkshire Mouse online shop

A fairly rare, early Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson lattice back chair with cow hide seat - circa 1950s. The signature mouse is carved running up one front leg.

Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson started making these lattice back chairs in the 1950s. This example is one of the first made and has the front stretcher placed between the two front legs, dating it to the fifties. The front stretchers on the later chairs were moved back from around 1960.

The old foam seat and cow hide have been replaced, so the seat is in perfect condition with no staining or damage. The colour of the hide is light tan and looks quite a bit darker in reality than in the pictures due to lighting. The original webbing remains beneath the seat.

The frame of the chair is in very good condition, solid and sturdy with no movement in the joints. It has excellent patination and is a wonderful dark honey colour, which really compliments the seat. It has been professionally polished and waxed, so again, there is no staining, it looks fabulous.

All in all, it is a lovely, early Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson piece. Still suitable for everyday use. Because of the seat height, it is suitable to be used as a desk or dining chair, or even just for display and occasional use in the hall.

There are more of these 1950s lattice back chairs in stock if buyers would like a pair. Please contact info@yorkshiremouse.co.uk for more information.
