A really lovely, early, dark oak Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson coffee table circa 1950s. It has an octagonal twin plank top which has been beautifully adzed and is free from stains, just slight signs of wear from use. The base has been subtly adzed which is great to see as the later coffee table bases are plain. The feet are also more rounded than the later examples. The colour is absolutely gorgeous, it's a deep, rich, dark colour that you just can't find on the later coffee tables.
The condition is very good. There are nicks to the base which can be seen on close inspection (priced accordingly). When the table is turned upside down, a small chip can be seen to one of the feet (not seen unless upturned), other than that, nothing really significant, just the usual wear for an earlier made piece like this, they are hardly ever in perfect condition, and when they are, they command much higher prices. The diameter of the top is 50 cm and the height of the table is 47 cm. The signature mouse is particularly good and has been expertly carved running up the base. It has no chips to the ears or any damage, it's perfect. Overall, it's a beautiful coffee table, a really good example. These earlier, dark oak coffee tables are always sought after by collectors.
