A really beautiful 1970s Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson candlestick. All hand carved with a superb signature mouse that is looking out to the left-hand side, which is a bit more unusual to see. It is a wonderful colour and has excellent patination.
These earlier made candlesticks have sconces that are hand carved so that the candle fits straight in. The later Mouseman candlesticks normally have wrought iron sconces, probably to eliminate scorching to the oak. These particular candlesticks are quite rare to the market as not as many of them were made, making them a bit more special.
The condition is very good. It just has a bit of scorching to the sconce, and a few tiny nibbles to the base where the leaves have been carved, which are only noticeable on very close inspection and to be expected from a used candlestick which is around 50 years old.
A beautiful piece that is sure to brighten up any room.
