An excellent example of a 1960s Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson fruit bowl. It has been so well carved with an expertly executed signature mouse sitting in the centre of the bowl. The mouse has a higher back end, thinner neck and prominent ears, unlike the later Mouseman mice, which have a lower back end, thicker neck and less prominent ears. Mouseman changed the design of the mouse as the earlier mice often suffered damage to the ears, so the shape changed in order to try to limit this. The colour of the bowl is wonderful, and it has great patination. It has also been carved from a lovely piece of oak with medullary rays that radiate when they catch the light.
 
The condition is excellent with no damage, just ever so slight wear, faint scratches etc seen on very close inspection. The diameter measures 27.5 cm, so a fair bit smaller than the contemporary bowls which measure 30.5 cm.
