Fairly rare to the market, an early Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson lattice back arm chair with cream leather seat - circa 1950s. The signature mouse is carved running up one front leg.
Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson started making these lattice back chairs in the 1950s. This example is one of the first made as indicated by the front stretcher, which is the same width as the other stretchers, dating it to the fifties. The front stretchers on the later arm chairs are not so wide.
The old foam seat and cow hide have been replaced, so the seat is in perfect condition with no staining or damage. The colour of the hide is light cream. The original webbing remains beneath the seat.
The frame of the chair is in very good condition, solid and sturdy with no movement in the joints. It has wonderful patination and is a gorgeous dark honey colour. It has been professionally polished and waxed, so again, there is no staining, just one small chip to the bottom of the back of one leg, not really noticeable. It also has some general wear, all in line with age and use.
Overall, it is a lovely, early Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson piece. Still suitable for everyday use.
There is another early Mouseman lattice back arm chair with the same cream leather seat in stock. If interested, please contact info@yorkshiremouse.co.uk for more information. There is also a later lattice arm chair with a chocolate leather seat which is already listed in the online shop, and another lattice chair with a light tan leather seat. Please note that the light tan seat is a different colour to the seats on the armchairs, it is darker.
