Welcome to the Yorkshire Mouse online shop

An early Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson cheese board - circa 1940s. These earlier made cheese boards have the signature mouse carved directly onto the board. Around 1960 the mouse was moved to the handle to give it more strength, so all the later boards have the mouse on the handle, and the earlier examples have the mouse on the board.

It has signs of use with some knife marks to the top of the board and general wear and tear that you would expect to see from a used cheese board that is around 80 years old. In fine condition these early cheese boards command very high prices, this one has been priced to reflect the used condition.

The plump signature mouse has been well carved and has no damage, chips, or cracks. The entire board has been lightly adzed all over, even to the handle and to the base, which is good to see - the later boards are only adzed to the top surface of the board. It measures 35 cm long.

A good Mouseman piece. These early cheese boards are always sought after by collectors.
