Welcome to the Yorkshire Mouse online shop

An excellent example of a 1930s dark oak Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson ashtray with a superbly carved period signature mouse on the top.

The mouse is typical of the early Mouseman mice. It has a high back end, very prominent ears, and a thin neck. Later mice were carved with a lower back end, thicker necks, and less prominent ears to try to prevent damage.

The whole piece has been expertly carved and is a wonderful dark oak colour. Also, as it is an early ashtray, the well has been hand carved, which is great to see, the wells of the later ashtrays are machine cut and are more uniform.

The condition is very good. There are a few small scorch marks in the well, and a few small dark spots on one edge where the mouse's nose is, not really noticeable, but should be pointed out. Other than that it just has wear expected of a piece of carved oak that is around 100 years old.

A fine, early Mouseman piece.
