An early Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson 1930s / 1940s fruit bowl. It has been beautifully carved and is a wonderful dark oak colour. The signature mouse has been carved onto the outside of the bowl - from the 1960s onwards they were carved in the bowl. It has gorgeous patination and has been superbly adzed and tooled all over. There is some fruit acid staining, particularly to the inside of the bowl. There are also some small stains to the exterior and two faint indentations to the rim that have smoothed out with age. Other than that, the condition is very good, with no cracks, just wear all in line with age and use. The signature mouse has been very well executed with no chips to the ears or damage of any sort. The diameter measures just 9" or 23 cm. It's quite rare to find a Mouseman fruit bowl of this size. These smaller, earlier made, dark oak fruit bowls are always highly sought after by collectors.
